Overview of the Role:
The EHS Engineer partners with the Leadership Team and every level
of employees to translate process opportunities into actions that
drive a culture of safety throughout the departments. The primary
purpose of the position is to lead the manufacturing organization
to improve Safety practices, environmental requirements and
employee's engagement level.
What will you get to do in this position?
Includes creation of strategic vision and tactical management and
execution, examples include but are not limited to:
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws,
regulations, codes, and rules.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental
laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
- Familiar with Title V, RECLAIM, Rule 1469.1 and emission related
AQMD rules and the corresponding reporting requirements.
- Familiar with stormwater management regulations, reporting, and
compliance.
- Familiar with local wastewater regulations and reporting.
- Maintain knowledge of company safety rules and take an active
role in enforcement, safety committee and safety training.
- Responsible for maintaining safety guidelines, procedures, and
policies for assigned site.
- Able to effectively communicate and train safety and
environmental topics.
- Perform weekly and monthly hazardous waste and stormwater
inspections, and monthly data gathering.
- Responsible for accident/incident prevention, investigations and
maintaining online reporting system.
- Manage and monitor regulatory environmental and safety issues and
reporting.
- Maintain and file documentation needed for reporting to
controlling agencies.
- Manage internal inspection programs, such as tracking corrective
actions and audit follow ups.
- Responsible for Respiratory Program.
- Tracks employee license and certifications as related to safety
to ensure compliance.
- Perform routine job safety analyses, building safety inspections
and reviews.
- Work closely with site Operations Manager, and Samuel leadership
team on all safety and environmental issues.
- This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive, and the
employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties
as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management, as
required. Staffing of positions to be determined by Company, as
requirements warrant.
- As a Samuel employee, you are required to understand the ISO
system and the elements that affect your job.
Education Requirements
- Bachelors of Science degree from an accredited institution in
Engineering, Business or related field w/ 10 years equivalent
experience on the role.
Qualifications
- 10 years of safety related experience and/or advanced
training/education in safety and environmental compliance in
manufacturing.
- Able to work independently as well as within a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA, AQMD, CUPA, DTSC, SWRCB and
applicable local regulatory agencies.
- 30-hour OSHA card must be obtained within 6 months of employment
and OSHA 511 within 18 months of job assignment.
- CPR / First Aid certified within 6 months of employment.
- Forklift train the trainer authorized.
- Proficient on Microsoft Office Products.
- Ability to train all levels of the organization.
- Be an active member of the company Safety Committee.
- Be able to maintain confidentiality when working with
investigations and injuries.
- Leadership - Job requires a willingness to lead, take charge, and
offer opinions and direction.
- Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and
management principles involved in strategic planning, resource
allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique,
production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Disciplined Execution - Job requires holding the Operations team
accountable through daily execution to the plan. When required,
he/she will need to be able to dive into details to ensure
operational success.
